Empowering public health organizations with new data, tools, and insights

We develop tools that provide data-driven insights to help global public health officials support their communities.

Open Health Stack

Providing developers with a suite of open source components that save time and make it easier to adopt modern healthcare standards, leading to secure, offline-capable, data-driven solutions for health workers to better help their communities.

Air quality measurements

Street View vehicles map air quality to help cities make more informed decisions and accelerate efforts in their transition to healthier, more sustainable cities.

Flood forecasting models

Improved forecasting models that use AI to predict when and where floods will occur, and incorporate that information into Google Public Alerts so individuals and authorities can better prepare.

Heat resilience

Extreme heat threatens health, disproportionately affecting under-resourced communities. Google’s Heat Resilience feature uses AI to estimate how cool roofs and tree canopies can mitigate rising temperatures, helping policymakers in 14 pilot US cities implement heat mitigation strategies for more livable, resilient communities.

Health services access insights for emergency obstetric care

Using travel insights from Google Maps, our tool helps health service planners and policymakers assess geographic access to emergency obstetric care. This is part of our broader effort to help address gaps in access to health services.

Security and resilience of the rural hospital system

We are partnering with the U.S. White House to provide secure-by-design Google technology, consulting and support services to improve security and resilience of the rural hospital system. Additionally, as an Ambassador partner with Health Information Sharing and Analysis Center, Google provides cybersecurity resources, consulting, and training to over 750 global health organizations.

Social Infrastructure Plan

Our Downtown West Plan to help realize the City of San José’s vision for a mixed-use destination with housing alongside jobs and neighborhood services. The Plan includes a $200 million community benefits package, with over $150 million dedicated to a Citywide Community stabilization and Opportunity Pathways Fund that will address a range of social determinants of health.

Supported the creation of maps of travel time to care facilities globally, identifying vulnerable communities that lack access without transportation.

Opioid data analysis

The opioid crisis is a global public health challenge, with critical data often hidden in text fields. In partnership with Washington State in the US, Google is using a Natural Language Processing (NLP) API and Gemini models to make this data immediately usable, potentially saving thousands of person-hours.

Population dynamics foundation model (PDFM)

We designed a population dynamics foundation model and dataset that is able to be easily adapted to solve a wide array of geospatial problems, including in health. For example, it could be used in models that predict the prevalence and spread of diseases to help inform public health policy and resource allocation decisions.
